Introduction to Displacement Sensors
Basic Definition
A displacement sensor is a core precision measuring device used to convert physical linear or positional movement (displacement) of an object into readable electrical signals. It quantifies how far a target has moved, shifted or deflected, and is widely regarded as the "eyes" of industrial precision automation.
Core Working Principle
It captures tiny mechanical positional changes through physical effects (magnetic induction, optical grating, resistance variation, etc.), then transforms these subtle mechanical displacements into digital or analog voltage/current signals. Equipment such as PLCs, controllers and display meters can read these signals to calculate accurate position, length, thickness, vibration or deformation data.
Main Common Types (Matching Weidu Electronics’ Product Line)
Inductive Displacement Sensors
Rely on electromagnetic induction to detect metal target displacement. They feature strong anti-interference, stable long-term operation, and are ideal for automated production lines, mold detection and hydraulic cylinder stroke measurement.
Wireless Linear Encoders (Wireless Grating Displacement Sensors)
Adopt optical grating measurement technology, delivering ultra-high micron-level precision. Wireless transmission eliminates cumbersome wiring, suitable for machine tools, cutting equipment and mobile processing machinery that requires flexible installation.
Key Performance Indicators
Measurement Precision: Ranges from micrometer (μm) to sub-micrometer levels; high-end domestic models achieve 1μm accuracy for ultra-fine measurement scenarios.
Service Lifespan: Measured by working cycles. Premium industrial sensors support over 20 million friction-free cycles, adapting to long-duration continuous factory operation.
Stability: Resists interference from dust, vibration, temperature fluctuations and coolant in harsh workshop environments.
Wide Industrial Applications
Displacement sensors are indispensable for precision quality inspection and automatic closed-loop control across major industries:
CNC machine tools, machining centers and metal cutting equipment
Automotive component manufacturing, injection molding and mold inspection
New energy equipment, lithium battery production testing
Precision automation assembly, robotics and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
Metrology laboratories for dimensional detection and material deformation testing
Industry Significance: Domestic Import Substitution
For a long time, high-precision displacement sensors relied heavily on imported foreign brands. Domestic manufacturers like Weidu Electronics have broken this technological monopoly via independent R&D. Self-developed sensors match or exceed the performance of imported counterparts at lower costs, helping Chinese manufacturers reduce procurement costs and realize full localization of precision testing equipment.
