A butterfly valve, also called a flap valve, is a simple type of control valve that can be used for switch control and flow regulation in low-pressure pipelines. Its closure component (valve disc or flap) is a circular plate that rotates around the valve stem to open or close the valve. The valve can be used to control the flow of air, water, steam, various corrosive media, slurry, oil, liquid metal, and radioactive substances, making it widely used in fields like petroleum, chemicals, power, water treatment, and cooling water systems in thermal power plants.

The opening and closing part of the butterfly valve is a disc-shaped flap that rotates around its own axis within the valve body to open, close, or regulate flow. The sealing types include elastic seals and metal seals, with metal seals suitable for high-temperature environments. Triple-offset butterfly valves use metal-on-metal sealing and are used in petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical industries.
